April was born in Chicago, but from an early age, she was
drawn to the West. She graduated from the University of Utah,
studied veterinary medicine at the University of Illinois and
earned a law degree from Gonzaga University Law School in Spokane,
Washington. She lived in Seattle for 14 years, where she worked
as an attorney first in the entertainment industry, then in the
biotech industry--a background she draws upon for her medical
thrillers.
April attributes her love of animals, nature
and the West to time spent as a child on her grandfather's Wyoming
ranch. Floyd "Doc" Carroll was a rodeo champion, veterinarian,
movie stunt rider and rancher. One of April's proudest moments
came in 1998 when Doc was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame,
as one of this country's "Great Westerners." Most of
April's novels are set in the West.
April divides her time between homes in Lolo, Montana, and Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She spends as much time as she can in Yellowstone National Park, where her son and
daughter-in-law are both rangers. April will be teaching a screenwriting course at the University of Montana/College of Technology fall of 2005.
